Pacific Bird Conservation Meeting- Melbourne, Australia, 26-27 October 2009
The Secretariats for BirdLife International Pacific and the Pacific Region Environment Programme (SPREP) in conjunction with the Roundtable for Nature Conservation Bird Working Group will facilitate a meeting to agree on a Pacific Bird Conservation Plan. The meeting will be held in Melbourne, Australia, 26-27 October 2009.
Purpose of the Meeting:
Regional representatives agree a target orientated Pacific Bird Conservation Plan for 2010 - 2015 based on global and regional priorities that are complementary to BSAPs and other national and regional strategies.
This meeting executes the charter of the Bird Conservation Working Group of the Roundtable for Nature Conservation and recommendation one of the Third regional meeting held in Alotau, PNG in 2007.

8th Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas- Alotau, Papua New Guinea 22 – 26 October 2007
The 8th Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas, will take place in Alotau, PNG from 22 – 26 October 2007. The Conference’s theme, ‘Conservation serving communities, in a rapidly changing world’ highlights the inextricable link between Pacific islanders and the natural environment, and the importance of strengthening networks in the climate of global change.

Philip Tortell will be visiting Hawaii to meet with representatives of conservation and resource management organizations to explore methods for evaluation and monitoring of policy implementation and the effects of work. He hopes to develop a process for the Pacific Islands Roundtable to evaluate and monitor the progress of their Action Strategy for Pacific Nature Conservation 2003-2007.
