Common Flora: Breadfruit, manioc, yams, coconuts, and taro are typical agricultural plants. Most of the native forests have been long since cleared.
Common Fauna: Pigs and chickens are common, having been introduced as food animals. Native animals include a fruit bat, and a variety of seabirds, such as frigatebirds, terns, and gannets, as well as land birds like the rare blue-crowned lorikeet (Vini australis). The reefs host many fish and invertebrates.
Notes:

  • There are no permanent settlements on Alofi Island, due to the lack of freshwater.
  • Wallis and Futuna is an overseas territory of France.
