For many years, PBIF mailing lists have facilitated communication between biodiversity professionals interested in Pacific biodiversity conservation and management. Lists marked private were specifically limited to members of an established working group.

List of PBIF Mailing Lists

The following list was last updated in 2007 and may therefore be inaccurate:

  • PBIF-L (Public) General discussion list for the Pacific Biodiversity Information Forum. Subscribe to this list.
    PBIF is a consortium of biodiversity and information organizations working together to make Pacific biodiversity information available in order to enable effective management and conservation efforts in the Pacific.
  • PBIF-IOC-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Biodiversity Information Forum’s organizing committee. Participation in this list is limited to members of the PBIF organizing committee.
    The organizing committee is the governing body of PBIF and is responsible for guiding the organization towards projects that will help acheive the stated goal of making Pacific biodiversity information available in order to enable effective management and conservation efforts in the Pacific.
  • PIRT-L (Public) General discussion list for the Pacific Islands Round Table. Subscribe to this list.
    The Pacific Island Roundtable for Nature Conservation is a collaboration between individuals working toward conservation and sustainable resource use on Pacific islands.
  • BirdCon-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Island Round Table’s bird conservation working group. Participation in this list is limited to members of the working group.
    This working group facilitates communication and planning among regional specialists in bird conservation.
  • Communications-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Island Round Table’s communications working group. Participation in this list is limited to members of the working group.
    The communications working group is working to open up and maintain lines of communication between members of the Pacific Island Roundtable, and other conservation organizations in the Pacific region, and works to raise awareness and promote conservation values to improve the environmental state of the Pacific region.
  • Communities-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Island Round Table’s communities working group. Participation in this list is limited to members of the working group.
    The communities working group is seeking to compile and disseminate to Govs, NGOs, Community links and researchers, information on lessons learned, tools, examples and processes for supporting community governance of natural resources in the Pacific.
  • ConNet-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Island Round Table’s conservation networking working group. Participation in this list is limited to members of the working group.
    The conservation networking working group is working to develop partnerships and networks to improve conservation area management in the Pacific.
  • CM-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Island Round Table’s Coastal and Marine working group. Participation in this list is limited to members of the working group.
    The conservation and monitoring working group advance targets of the Action Strategy related to coastal and marine activity.
  • DATA-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Island Round Table’s data and information working group. Participation in this list is limited to members of the working group.
    The data and information working group is developing information sharing opportunities and standards to facilitate information exchange between groups.
  • Finance-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Island Round Table’s sustainable financing working group. Participation in this list is limited to members of the working group.
    The sustainable financing working group is focusing on conservation incentives and sustainable funding mechanisms as well as fostering the links between environment and economic development at all levels.
  • Invasives-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Island Round Table’s invasive species working group. Participation in this list is limited to members of the working group.
    The invasive species working group is working to improve collaboration and cooperation between organisations and individuals operating at global, regional and national scales to more effectively address invasive species issues in the Pacific regionincrease.

    The leadership and training working group seeks to empower local people, communities and institutions to effectively participate in decision making and action related to conservation.
  • Management-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Island Round Table’s management working group. Participation in this list is limited to members of the working group.
    The management working group is working to manage PIRT’s efforts within the Pacific region.
  • NBSAP-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Island Round Table’s National Biological Strategic Action Plan working group. Participation in this list is limited to members of the working group.
    The National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan working group works to connect national and regional activities for conservation and to assist with the development and implementation of NBSAPs or similar national biodiversity activities.
  • TSE-L (Private) Mailing list for the Pacific Island Round Table’s threatened species and environments working group. Participation in this list is limited to members of the working group.
    The primary aim of the Threatened Species and Ecosystems Working Group (TSEWG) is to coordinate and stimulate the efforts of members and member organisations in the implementation of the relevant Action Strategy targets and to, more generally, promote the conservation of threatened species and ecosystems of ecological and cultural importance in the Pacific Islands.
